Birthday Bash

On October 9, 2014, we celebrated five years as Rosemount Rotary Club.  We invited all of our past and present members to celebrate with us at Vivo Kitchen in Apple Valley.  We enjoyed a wonderful evening and shared appetizers, drinks, dinner and lots of memories. The festivities included a variety of games and prizes, including a cake walk and a little pin the tail on the donkey (what would a birthday party be without it?). Many Starbucks gift cards were awarded based on the best response to the conversation card topics that discussed during the meal.  We also played a little game of "no," which meant that everyone received a strand of beads but had to give them to an opponent if they said the word "no" at any point during the evening.  Vivo was kind enough to provide two complimentary $20 gift cards towards the effort.  Thanks, Vivo!

 

During desert, we watched a movie/slideshow of birthday memories based on family birthday pictures that members had sent in before the event.

 

Members of the Farmington Rotary Club also attended the event. The Farmington club was instrumental in helping Rosemount get off the ground in 2009. One of the highlights of the evening came from Farmington Rotary's donation to the Rosemount club. The gift emphasized the strong connection that exists between the two clubs, with many members volunteering at events to help the other club out, given that both clubs are relatively new and have fewer than 30 members.

Birthdays generally bring back positive memories.  Rotary International is committed to the life-giving vaccines that have saved billions of children from the risks associated with polio. So if you think about it, Rotary International is all about birthdays. Here in the United States, our club played a small part in brightening a few birthdays as well. Our members and guests were asked to bring cake mix, candles and frosting to our Birthday Bash. We took a few minutes at the beginning to pack these items into birthday cake bundles.  We then donated these bundles to the Rosemount Family Resource Center the next day. Even when our members celebrate, they still find a way to serve the community.  We asked, and our members really came through.

 

 

Thanks to Laura Briggs for planning this wonderful event. Here she is moderating a heated game of pin the tail on the donkey. Who knew there could be so much debate about where a donkey's tail actually goes? But what would a birthday bash be without pin the tail on the donkey?
