The Rotary Club of Rosemount is pleased to announce that Rosemount High School senior Luke Dahl is its December 2014 Student of the Month.

Luke Dahl lives in Rosemount with his parents Jon and Sarah.

At Rosemount High School, Luke has achieved a cumulative GPA of 3.95 while actively participating in the school’s honors program.  He has been named to the “A” honor roll during all four years at RHS. He is a member of the National Honor Society and has taken College in the Schools or AP courses during most of his last three years of high school. During his junior year, he received the ExCEL Award, which is a statewide award recognizing juniors who demonstrate excellence in community, education and leadership.

Luke is also active outside the classroom.  He enjoys baseball and football and has been actively involved in both varsity programs at RHS. In baseball, he is a three-year varsity starter, two-year captain, and a two-time all conference member. In football, he was a captain, three-year varsity member, 2014 player of the year, and recipient of the Pat Tillman Award, and award voted on by players and given to the person who most exemplifies a willingness to serve.

Luke has also demonstrated a commitment to his fellow students at RHS.  As a student ambassador, he volunteered to help new students acclimate to RHS during their first few weeks there. Luke also serves in his school by tutoring students on his own time through a tutoring program that allows younger students to receive assistance and direction from older students.

Outside school, Luke also helps younger kids with skill development in sports through coaching and teaching baseball and football. He also spends significant time working with a fellow classmate who has special needs. Luke explains that the student has become a major part of his life during his four years in high school. The two meet regularly for 2-5 hour sessions to focus on basic life skills, physical development and social skills.

When he is not studying, working or volunteering, Luke enjoys spending time with friends and family. He also enjoys playing sports in his free time, including hockey on the pond in the winter.

Luke has applied to a number of colleges but St. Olaf College and Stanford University are at the top of his list. Luke is focused on a career in medicine, but he is also considering majors in mathematics and engineering.
