The Rotary Club of Rosemount is pleased to announce that Rosemount High School senior Jacob Alex is its February 2014 Student of the Month.

Jacob lives in Rosemount with his parents and two younger siblings. He is an excellent student and has earned a 4.0 GPA.  His schedule includes a variety of AP and Honors classes.  He received the ExCEL school and state award and is a National AP Scholar with Distinction.

Outside the classroom, Jacob is the Varsity Captain of the debate team.  He also participates in the mock trial and speech clubs. Jacob serves as Secretary for the Rosemount High School Student Council and is active in the National Honor Society and the National Spanish Honors Society.

He is Chairman of the Rosemount City Youth Commission, which acts as an intermediate link between youth and the Rosemount city government.  He has played an integral role in helping the youth commission partner with the Rosemount Area Arts Council to host the Christmas Tree Lighting and Swing Dancing events last year. In service to the community, Jacob teaches elementary school students about the dangers of alcohol and drugs.  He also volunteers as a peer tutor and serves other organizations, including his church, Feed My Starving Children and OneRosemount.

Jacob has also been active in sports during high school, participating in track and playing soccer on the Dakota Rev Traveling Soccer team and the Rosemount High School Soccer Team, where he served as Captain.

As an aspiring neurosurgeon, Jacob volunteers in the ER at Fairview Ridges Emergency Room.  After graduating from Rosemount High School, Jacob plans to major in biochemistry or neuroscience, with a Spanish and French minor. He has not made a final decision about which college he will attend, but he narrowed the field to Duke University and Washington University in St. Louis.

When not studying or volunteering in Rosemount, Jacob enjoys reading, playing sports, playing piano and spending time with friends.
