Club News
Today we met our April Student of the Month, Julia Alex.  She was described by Principal Roback as a "go-getter" and we soon found out why.  Julia was very appreciative of all the opportunities given to her.  At RHS, she is the Student Council President, Captain of the Debate Team, and DECCA.  Julia volunteers at 360 Communites and was instrumental in painting a mural there with 7 other RHS students (one of which was our Feb SOM) which transformed a blank wall into a vibrant display of inclusivity and healthy food.  Along with that, she helped revitalized  the  RHS's powder puff football game into a fundraising event that raised $1900 and several hundred pounds of food for the food shelf at 360.   Julia plans to attend the University of Pennsylvania (prestigious Business School) and major in Finance with a focus on Environmental & Social issues in Business.  Our club wishes her the best and we know she will bring a positive change in the world.
Jeff Ellis today received his Paul Harris Fellow Plus 1 pin, which he is proudly displaying pictured with current President, Amy Eppen.
The Paul Harris Fellow is one of the most prestigious awards in Rotary and is named after the founder of Rotary, Paul Harris.  Jeff, now, a multiple  recepient, is recognized for his commitment to The Rotary Foundation.  Thank you Jeff for your contributions which go along way to eradicate Polio, create Peace in the world,  provide Clean Water, saving mothers & children, growing local communities, and protecting the environment.

Today, our club heard from Molly Cihla.  Molly is the Community Advocacy Supervisor at 360 Communities.   April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month.  The one fact that stood out in Molly's presentation was that 975 out of 1000 perpetrators will walk free.  For more information, please visit www.360communities.org.
Today our club heard from Penny Schumacher, Development Director of The Grief Club of Minnesota.  This organization was founded in 2020 and its mission is to provide a place where grieving children, teens, and their families find connections, share their experiences, and heal.  The 2 co-founders themselves, experienced deaths of significant family members as children.  They took their combined 45 years of experience in grief & mental health crisis to form this Club to offer help at no cost to participants and accepting no insurance.
It was shocking to learn that 1 in 12 children in the US will experience the death of a parent or sibling before the age of 18.   We learns how the Grief Club incorporates Art in their therapy.
Thank you Penny for this presentation.  For more information, go to griefclubmn.org.
