The Rotary Club of Rosemount is pleased to announce that Rosemount High School senior McKenzie Samson is its April Student of the Month.

The Rotary Student of the Month Program is sponsored by Dakota County Technical College and Inver Hills Community College.

Samson excels academically and is a Valedictorian with a 4.0 GPA.  She has taken numerous AP and CIS classes during high school.  She has also received numerous academic and other awards based on her hard work during high school.  These awards include being named Science Student of the Year, National Merit Commended Scholar, AP Scholar with Distinction, All-State Tennis, and being part of the Top Ten in her high school class.

McKenzie is also a clear leader.  She is president of National Honor Society (NHS), executive officer of Tri-M Music and Dance Honor Society, a leader in Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA), two-year officer for Group of Active Teens (GOAT) and a Table Leader at the Rosemount Rotary Club Ethics Workshop.

Samson’s activities beyond the classroom are extensive. In addition to leading or helping to lead many of extra-curricular clubs she is involved in, she is also on the varsity girls tennis team and has been involved in dance since age five.  She has participated in Onstage as a dancer during high school.  She is also active at St. Joseph’s Church and has participated on a youth mission team for three years.  She took part in the Shamrock Ball, a dance for students with special needs, and she plays games with residents at Trinity Nursing Home.  Her activities also include Operation Christmas Child, Adopt-a-Highway cleanups and Red Cross Blood Drives.

After high school, Samson will be continuing her Irish-themed education by attending the University of Notre Dame.  She plans to study biochemistry.

Each month during the school year Rosemount Rotary recognizes a student who exemplifies Rotary International’s motto, Service Above Self. The club meets for lunch at noon Fridays at Fireside Restaurant. Guests are welcome.
