The Rotary Club of Rosemount is pleased to announce Rosemount High School senior Alexandra McLaughlin is its April 2012 Student of the Month.

Alexandra is a 3.992 student who currently ranks 10th in her class. Her academic success has compelled her to take a number of Advanced Placement and college-level courses, but she truly shines as a writing and English student.

As testament to her abilities in these areas, Alexandra was recently selected by the District 196 School Board as the Rosemount High School Student of the Year in English and is a Dartmouth Book Award nominee. She was also selected as one of 13 seniors in Minnesota and 520 in the nation to receive Certificates for Superior Writing in the 2011 National Achievement Awards in Writing sponsored by the National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE).

In addition to being an outstanding student in the classroom, Alexandra is involved in speech, debate and tennis, where she was part of the team that went to the state tournament and brought home a fourth place victory. She is also an officer in the National French Honor Society, having served as treasurer and secretary as well as a tutor and Feed My Starving Children volunteer.

Outside of school, Alexandra volunteers at Fairview Ridges Clinic in the birth center by helping new moms and babies as well as pushing the hospitality cart. She also enjoys spending time with friends and watching Cupcake Wars.

Following graduation, Alexandra intends to become a student at Macalester College in St. Paul as an English or journalism major.
