Today, our club heard from Bruce Morlan (Red) & Richard DeBeau (Blue). They are part of the Braver Angels which is a National Citizen's Movement (2017) with the goal of reducing political polarization....to bring liberals and conservatives together....to understand each other beyond stereotypes.
They spoke about the growing animosity towards the other political party.....how social media has weaponized the echo chambers allowing us to isolate by interests....how emojis has fueled this fire....that it's not just politics that are getting messed up by our addiction....suicide rates have increased dramatically especially for girls in the 10-14 & 15-19 age range.
Braver Angels offers Skills Training, Workshops, Alliances, Debates, a Library & a Film Club all with the purpose of bringing us together at a grassroots level - not to centrist compromise, but to find one another as citizens. It was a very thought provoking presentation. Check out braverangels.org
