A master of debate and speech, Lisa Beard's list of accomplishments command attention.

The Rotary Club of Rosemount is proud to announce Rosemount High School senior Lisa Beard as its January 2012 Student of the Month.

Lisa has a long list of accomplishments related to her speech and debate skills. She recently competed in the MSHSL State Debate Tournament and was featured in a KARE 11 news story on the world of high school debate. While Lisa has certainly racked up achievements while participating in speech and debate, she notes that the travel and networking opportunities she has had from participating are the highlight for her.

This past summer, Dakota Electric selected Lisa to go to Washington, D.C. for the annual Rural Electric Youth Tour, sponsored by the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association (NRECA) to learn more about electric utilities and our government. She was one of five students chose to go on the trip.

Lisa is also quite passionate about blood donation and anticipates getting her gallon pin this year for her donations.

In addition to her extra curricular activities, Lisa has also excelled academically. She was one of 36 students in ISD 196 recognized by the National Merit Scholarship program for earning a test score that ranked her in the top five percent of students nationwide. She has also consistently been on the Rosemount High School Honor Roll.

Following high school graduation, Lisa is considering a neurology-related major and has narrowed her college and university choices to Drake University, St. Olaf, University of St. Thomas, University of Minnesota Twin Cities, or Concordia Moorhead.
