Calvin Keasling (RHS Assistant Principal) introduced our March Student of the Month, Hafsa Haji. Hafsa was our 2nd student that participated in the District's AVID program (Advancement Via Individual Determination). AVID is a college preparatory program that helps students reach their full potential. Hafsa was a very eloquent speaker. In his introduction, Calvin mentioned that Hafsa's AVID teacher said, "after she graduates, we know we will see her name somewhere". In addition to being a top student, Hafsa is on the tennis team, volunteers at Dakota County Libraries and also at the South Islamic Center in Rosemount. She expressed to us the importance of giving back. Her 2 college choices are the University of Minnesota and Columbia. Her major will be Chemistry and plans to enter Medical School. Two issues dear to her heart is the rate of maternal deaths among African-American women and ending female genital mutilation in Somalia. It was apparent to us that Hafsa will go far in this world.....we look forward to seeing her name in the future.
