The Rotary Club of Rosemount is pleased to announce that Rosemount High School senior Grace Herron is its October 2014 Student of the Month.

Grace lives in Rosemount with her parents Tim and Marcia and her brother John.

Grace Herron is unique even among Rotary’s elite students of the month in that she is ranked first in her class of 500 students. She has maintained an unweighted GPA of 4.0 in each of her four years in high school.  She is a National Merit Commended Scholar and an AP Scholar with Distinction. She achieved the highest possible score on seven AP exams and is continuing to take AP classes during her senior year.

Outside the classroom, Grace enjoys swimming and has lettered on the varsity swim team each of her four years in high school. She received All-Conference and All-State awards in 2012 and 2013. This year, she serves as the team’s captain. Grace is also an active participant in the RHS Band program.  She is a percussionist and has participated in the RHS Concert Band, Symphonic Band, Chamber Winds, Wind Symphony and Wind Ensemble.

Grace Herron has displayed leadership both in and out of school. At RHS, she has been elected president of the student council after serving as a member of the council for her first three years of high school. She has also taken on a leadership role in the National Honor Society, participating in the Alpha and Delta Committees. Outside school, Grace is a small group leader at St. Joseph’s Vacation Bible School and is a student mentor at Shannon Park Elementary School.

Grace has actively sought service opportunities throughout high school and exemplifies the “service above self” motto of Rosemount Rotary Club.  At RHS, Grace has worked to develop school events and has volunteered at school orientations and open houses. As president of the student council, she organized the homecoming coronation festivities.  Through her role in the National Honor Society, she devoted more than 36 hours to community service and took part in a variety of service efforts, including blood drives, PTO babysitting and other volunteer activities. She also played an active role in Teacher Appreciation Days, Toys 4 Tots and the “Drive One 4 UR School” event hosted by Ford Motor Company.

In her spare time, Grace enjoys reading about fashion in magazines, blogs and Web sites.  She also loves watching movies and spending time with friends.

After high school, Grace plans to attend either Dartmouth College or the University of Chicago.  She plans to major in biology as she prepares for medical school and a career as a surgeon.
